Eunice Institute’s Mission Statement:
To train women in knowing the Bible and theological foundations and equip them to teach these truths to other women, as commanded in Titus 2
How it began:
My desire for the last couple of years has been to develop a women’s Bible & theology institute of courses similar to what Reaching & Teaching is doing, but with ABWE’s national partners. That desire is becoming a reality! Recently, I was in conversation with a missionary with Live Global—the ABWE branch that works directly with national partners—about the need for training women and what women national partners are looking for. I didn’t want to design courses that aren’t wanted or needed.
There is a strong interest in one of the Latin American countries to further train and equip the women there. They would love to have Bible and theology courses taught there to train the women, who can then go out and train more women. While I had planned to finish seminary before developing the courses for Eunice Institute, the need is calling, so I am beginning sooner than expected.
Scriptural basis:
2 Timothy 1:5 – I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.
Titus 2:3-5 – Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.
Timothy’s mother Eunice (and grandmother Lois) taught him the faith growing up. Women need to be equipped to understand the Scriptures to teach their children and other women the truths of God’s Word. Older women are commanded to teach what is good to the young women and train them.
For now, the plan is to develop these five (5) courses:
1) Bible Overview: The Bible’s Storyline (What does the Bible say?)
2) Bible Study: The Inductive Method/Charles Simeon Trust Principles (How do we understand the Bible?)
3) Bible Doctrine: Theology Matters (What does the Bible teach?)
4) Biblical Womanhood: Developing a Biblical Lens for Womanhood (How does the Bible shape my thinking and living as a woman in this world?)
5) Biblical Teaching: Taking the Bible to Others (How do I communicate the Bible’s truths to other women?)
